What is a Hongkong Prize?

Hongkong Prizes recognize individuals or groups for exceptional accomplishment in any of the fields outlined below, selected by an independent panel of judges who specialize in that field. Winners receive cash, trophy and an engraved gold medal as part of their award; in addition they have an opportunity to present public lectures about their chosen area of expertise. Furthermore, The HK Foundation also provides scholarships to young artists looking for careers.

The Hong Kong Foundation Scholarship was created in 2023 and provides annual awards of up to HK$25,000 for students from disadvantaged families studying at local universities or training for professional qualifications in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan or China. A panel of local artists and academics select the winners; applications can be made between January and March of each year.

Unfortunately, as more and more of the population move toward more environmentally sustainable lifestyles, so too do their financial circumstances. So where does that leave us now? With no end in sight? With more and more people turning away from traditional forms of investing. With less and less people willing or able to pay the premium prices that accompany traditional investment vehicles. With less and less people willing or able to commit the required funds and energy. With less and less of us willing or able to save – when will it end? Ng Siew Chien was awarded the BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize in Life Sciences and Healthcare for her development of noninvasive tests to screen for gastrointestinal tract disorders and autism spectrum disorder, while Zhang Hua, Chen Shih-chi and Wang Cong were recognized with awards in Physical Science and Engineering and Innovative Data and AI Security respectively for their achievements in phase engineering of nanomaterials, 3D microfabrication techniques, advanced data analysis. Prize money for each winner was set at HK$2 Million. HK Phil gratefully acknowledges its donors, including Hong Kong SAR Government and Principal Patron Swire Group, for their continued support. This year’s Hong Kong Phil project was an award-winning box-set recording of Wagner’s Ring Cycle that received worldwide praise and was nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award as Best Classical Album. We are humbled and honored to receive such a prestigious recognition! We thank our many supporters who helped make it all happen.
