What is the HK Prize?

The Hong Kong Prize (hk Prize) is an international scholarship program that honors students for their academic achievements, extracurricular involvement and talents. This non-governmental merit-based award is open to anyone who has completed high school. Winners receive both a monetary prize as well as the opportunity to conduct research in Hong Kong.

The Prize, funded by the Republic of China government, is valued at HK$100,000. Applicants must submit an academic article on a topic with significant societal significance that can include clinical (including prospective and retrospective clinical trials), observational/epidemiological or basic science research. If selected as winner, he/she will be expected to visit Hong Kong to give a presentation about their work.

There are various ways you can participate in the Hong Kong Prize, from writing to volunteering. It welcomes writers from all around the world and celebrates Asian culture and history – one of its few awards that recognize Asian literature written in multiple languages.

The Hong Kong Prize has become one of Asia’s premier prizes and this year, judges selected Ten Years as its recipient despite widespread opposition on mainland China (Boeing declared it “virus of the mind”).

This year is not the first time a Chinese-language film has won top prize at the Hong Kong International Film Festival; but it certainly makes headlines more than any other time before. Indeed, due to threats by China’s Communist Party of shutting it down altogether.

HK Prize winners are recognized for research that has had an immense positive effect on society, while the scholarship program helps inspire young scientists to pursue science careers. Furthermore, Hong Kong Prize provides an excellent way of discovering its vibrant science and technology scene as winners can conduct their research at some of Hong Kong’s premier laboratories as part of the prize package.

The Hong Kong Prize offers authors from all over the world an excellent opportunity to be recognized for their work. Open to authors from any discipline and culture, this prize honors Asian culture, language, and history while publishing winners in any English-language newspaper or magazine in Hong Kong as well as providing them an opportunity to present at a City University event and publish research in international journals – making the HK Prize an outstanding option for writers interested in Asia!
